    Hi Joy

No offence taken. As I said, in my opinion ADHD is over-diagnosed and over-treated. It worries me that so many are put on powerful medications without proper assessment - you know, a careful taking of the person's history, several appointments even if only to observe behaviour, objective viewpoints of others in the person's life, that sort of thing. I am 50 years of age and wonder where all these people were when I was growing up. I'm sure there were some but definitely not in the numbers "they" would have us believe. I'm all for educating people on this. I just wanted to show the other side.

It also worries me, with all this medicating of things that really are NOT mental illness/ disorders, that true mental illness is going to end up even MORE stigmatised than it was in the past. I come from a family where major depression and bipolar disorder are rife. It's kind of 'normal' for me (I have major depressive disorder and GAD). And I am passionate about educating people about the true nature of these illnesses / disorders.

As for the "Junior" nuthouse - meh. At least we have a family and a house! Beats being homeless :D
Thanks for your kind words about our son. We hope it settles soon too.

Well, here I am on my soapbox, but maybe Google some about Omega-3 for ADHD and autism.
    Meds free since June 2005.

"An initiation into shamanic healing means a devaluation of all values, an overturning of the profane world, a peeling away of inveterate handed-down notions of the world, liberation from everything preconceived. For that reason, shamanism is closely connected with suffering. One must suffer the disintegration of one's own system of thought in order to perceive a new world in the higher space."

You are allowed to be on your soapbox. It's your forum

I remember when there was a lot of talk about Omega 3 being really good for ADHD. My naturopath felt she could treat my son with things like Dhea or whatever, and get him off dexamphetamine and catapres - but there's the economic side. It makes it hard. Because I was receiving "child disability allowance" I could get my son's meds cheap - like $5.00 per prescription. It would have cost a fortune buying remedies from my naturopath -as good as she is - so we just couldn't consider it. Besides, I was doing IVF at the time and there is only so much a person can cope with. The meds were WORKING! That's all I needed to know. (I still believed in psychotropics at that stage.)

With autism - I got over looking for remedies a long time ago. He was diagnosed at 4; he is now 23. I've done a lot of research over the years and I'm done with it. It is what it is. Meh. As long as he - and therefore us - have quality of life - that is what is most important. Our concern now is what will happen when we are no longer here. *sigh* So much to think about. Stuff I don't really want to think about really. I just want it all to go away. Hmm.. maybe I should take another a/d and just stay "happy" - LOL only kidding!
